Human-Centric AI at HSBC: Where Governance Meets Innovation

FTA and NTUC LearningHub ran an AI masterclass for HSBC's COO office, working through 22 agentic use cases with a focus on governance and human oversight.

Moments like these are exactly why we love what we do.

We recently had the absolute pleasure of facilitating a masterclass on the Fundamentals of AI Applications in the financial services sector for the outstanding COO office team at HSBC, with Tancy Tan actively leading the charge.

From the get-go, the energy in the room was defined by a shared sense of possibility, a genuine openness to learning, and a collective determination to figure out how tomorrow’s technology serves today’s real-world operations.

It is obvious that HSBC has cultivated a remarkably strong growth and learning culture where curiosity is encouraged and new tools are approached with an open mind.

During the course of the day, we did not just talk about theory. We got our hands dirty working directly on some of the 22 agentic AI use cases identified in HSBC’s own roadmap, spending dedicated time to ruminate, debate, and unpack the practical implementation mechanics required to take these projects from concept to reality.

Working with the operations office also meant we spent significant time speaking about the absolute importance of AI governance and data security compliance. In a high-stakes, high-trust, high-responsibility, and high-accountability environment like the financial sector, innovation cannot exist in a vacuum.

For this team, AI is completely human-centric and operations-grounded. It is entirely about enterprise leverage, equipping their global talent with sharper capabilities while maintaining an uncompromising stance on compliance and robust human-in-the-loop oversight.

Seeing how they look at building into AI gives us immense confidence in where this organisation is heading. They are approaching transformation with deep operator wisdom and an absolute focus on delivering sustainable long-term value for their stakeholders.

A massive thank you to Tancy Tan and her wonderful team for your exceptional warmth, sharp insights, and inspiring engagement. The future of banking operations looks incredibly bright, and it is in exceptionally capable hands.

Special thanks to NTUC LearningHub and team for partnering with us to bring this programme to life.

Thank you also to Christabel Lim for being such a wonderful facilitator, Vasanth Elangovan for making this possible and Eric Ong, CFA for helping to co-facilitate!
